Swauk Mining District

The Swauk Mining District was established in 1873. The original miners of the Swauk Mining District held a meeting at John Black’s Cabin on Swauk Kittitas County in the Washington Territory for the purpose of organizing the Swauk Mining District and enacting local laws and regulations for the government thereof. We are currently transitioning to a 501(c)(6) Business League to improve business operating conditions for mineral prospectors and mine operators within the Swauk Mining District.

The SMD boundaries are defined as: Beginning at the mouth of the Teanaway River running up and along the East bank of the Teanaway to the Swauk Trail, then up and along the summit of Swauk and the Teanaway Divide. From there and along the summit of Peshastin and Swauk Divide then to and along the summit of Wilson Creek and Swauk divide. From there, along and down Swauk Divide to the 19 milepost on Dry Creek, then Westward to and across the Yakima River and up the Yakima River to a point opposite the mouth of the Teanaway River and across the Yakima River to a spot back at the beginning of the boundary. If you’re an owner of an active mining claim or mining operation within the Swauk Mining District boundary, your are eligible for membership!
